BOWLING GREEN, Mo. — With so many events throughout the area cancelling due to COVID-19, the Pike County Missouri Fair Board took a chance, hosting this year’s fair and it all wrapped up with a big country music concert featuring Riley Green.
Above, Green asked the crowd to get out their camera’s on their phones to light up the area. As seen by the picture the concert was packed. While final totals won’t we be ready for a few days, it’s safe to say after large crowds filled the fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday night – 2020’s fair will was a success given the pandemic and rain on Wednesday and Thursday night.
Of course a big part of what makes the fair successful every year is the volunteers. You notice many by the red shirts they sport all week. Those individuals put in hundreds of hours of work each year to pull off the week long event. However, this year it took volunteers of all ages to step up and fill some shoes. Above, Alyson Schnitzer helped out in the food stand on Tuesday night. Below, for many year’s you can find a great crew working the grills and fryers out back. The ‘Cook Shack’ crew has been serving up meals that keep people coming back year after year just for the food.
Additionally, the fair wouldn’t be able to take place without EMT’s and local law enforcement who help everyone on the grounds stay safe. Sometimes that job even involves control crowds like below as Deputy David Carroll guards the backstage gate on Saturday evening.
Additional volunteers were needed throughout the week to help with picking up trash each morning. This year the Bowling Green High School football team and members of the Bowling Green and Clopton FFA groups stepped up to the challenge.
