LOUISIANA, Mo. — “Black Lives Matter” rang out as group that eventually neared 250 peaceful protesters marched around the Louisiana, Missouri riverfront.

On Wednesday evening Individuals of all ages and backgrounds gathered in effort to unite and empower, as our nation faces the repercussions of the death of George Floyd. Brittany Hall of Bowling Green, created a Facebook Group in an effort to inform and invite community members to the special event. This is the first protest that the community has seen at the local level.

Protesters brought homemade signs, open minds, and open hearts to the 2 hour long event. The event opened with a prayer from Cole Branstetter, a few words from Tiffany Coleman-Dade, Sherriff Stephen Korte, and event organizer Brittany Hall. A march with chants followed the opening statements, ending back at the river front opening the floor to anyone wanting to speak on the movement.

Children stood wide eyed with family and friends processing the inspiring words community members shouted into a megaphone. Event coordinator Brittany Hall stated that this movement is for a different and better future of today’s children.

“We want a change not only for current generations, but for future generations as well. We are with you, don’t give up, stay united, stay strong,” added Hall.

Louisiana Police as well as Sherriff Stephen Korte aided the event by restricting parking at the river front as well as blocking the road so protesters could peacefully march.

“The police were very helpful and their willingness to help us protest peacefully established a great sense of community and demonstrated respect for our event” said Hall.

The peaceful protest was much larger than Hall had originally expected, but it showed her the support within the Pike County community for a cause near to her heart, as well as many others. The large turnout has presented the possibility of an additional peaceful protest or similar event in the following weeks.
