CLARKSVILLE, Mo. – Clopton Elementary Teacher Lisa Street has received a nomination for Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year according to principal Stephanie Grimes.

Grimes made the announcement at the school board meeting in April. The Regional Teacher of the Year award is affiliated with the Missouri State Teacher of the Year program which is conducted annually with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. She added that the regional award is designed to focus public attention on excellence in teaching and to honor classroom teachers.

The selection committee will review candidate applications and then select the Regional Teachers of the Year by July 12. Those teachers are then invited to apply for the state program. There will only be two candidates chosen from the northeast region.

“This nomination speaks volumes about Mrs. Street,” noted Grimes. “The person who nominated her had to write a short essay on why she deserves this acknowledgement.”

Grimes added that while it’s a great honor to be nominated, it does not come light handedly. Street will have to write three essays about her beliefs in education along with submitting her resume.

“When I shared the news with her, she described her feelings as shocked but very honored,” stated Grimes. “I would like to invite everyone to reach out and congratulate her.”

Street, an alumn of the Clopton School District, has taught kindergarten for the past 22 years at Clopton and also served as an assistant basketball girls’ basketball during her time with the district.
