
SILEX, Mo. – The Clopton Hawks fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 13-1 loss to Westran on Thursday in opening rounds of Class 2 District 5 play. Westran scored on a stolen base by Marshall Kitchen and a single by Gage Boeger in the first inning.
Westran got on the board in the first inning scoring on a stolen base during Ashden Dale’s at bat. Then Dale doubled , driving in one.
Westran scored seven runs in the fourth inning. The Hornets offense in the inning was led by Cooper Harvey, Dale, Connor Haynes, DC Dale, and Rick Stevenson, who all drove in runs.
Harvey got the start for Westran. He surrendered one run on two hits over five innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Tyler Jarrett led things off on the mound for Clopton. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs while striking out two. Tucker Salmons threw two innings out of the bullpen.
Salmons and John Grillo all had one hit to lead the Hawks.
Westran tallied 14 hits. Boeger, Kitchen, Dale, Stevenson, and Treydence Chapman all had multiple hits for Westran. Boeger went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Westran in hits.
