BOWLING GREEN, Mo. – Another year is in the books for the Bowling Green Cross Country teams who once again went the distance by finishing at Gans Creek in Columbia running in the Class 3 state category.
This year Rachel Klott was the lone Lady ‘Cat who advanced on to state. Klott finished her freshman year in 91st place with a time of 22:56.
“Rachel had a fantastic season,” said head coach Matt Chance. “Running at state was a great experience for her and I look for even better things next season. Her work ethic is top notch, and another year of experience will really help her for meets like the state cross country championships. No doubt in my mind she will be back next year.”
The boys team made an impressive 16th appearance in the last 21 years at the state competition. The team overall finished in 12th place. Individually, Ben Chance placed 46th with a time of 17:51; Colton Hearn, 82nd place, 18:31; Trenton Griffith, 89th place, 18:36; Jose Soto, 102nd place, 18:51; Jack Hughes, 138th place, 19:55 and Evan Meyer, 148th place, 20:29.
“It was a tough day of racing with the temperatures near 80 degrees,” added Chance. “The guys gave it their best shot and that is all you can ask for. The boys did some great things this year and I am thankful we had a season. We return a lot of guys next year and should have a great shot to be back at state next year.”
