KJFM SPORTS - On January 18th we had the pleasure of broadcasting a game with former Silex Lady Owl standout Hayley Leake. Leake was part of the 2001 state championship team, went on to play for St. Louis University and is now the girls head basketball coach at Francis Howell Central. Hear her talk about her memories of playing for the Owls and where life's journey has taken her since her time at Silex.

The 100th anniversary of the Bowling Green Tournament marks not only the sense of shared history for BGHS and surrounding schools, but also celebrates the area's rich basketball traditions. Jim Ross and April Fronick had the opportunity to interview several folks with great connections to the event from years past right up to today. "A Look Back: Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Bowling Green Tournament" aired on Wednesday, January 22 with an encore presentation prior to the opening round games on Monday, January 27. The nostalgic program was sponsored exclusively by A Taste Of Philly Restaurant in Bowling Green. Special thanks to Tom and Lindsay Thompson and McCoy Thompson for their generous support of the community and the Bowling Green Tournament. The program featured conversations with Argil Ellison, former BGHS Athletic Director; LeRoy Vogel, member of the State Champion Bobcats; Charlene McCune, former pep squad /cheerleader; Brad Hufty, former Bowling Green and Lousiana boy's coach; Tony Francis, former Silex girl's coach and current Clopton boy's coach; Kari Koch-Dowell, former Elsberry player with the tournament scoring record and current Elsberry girl's coach; and Matt Chance, BGHS Athletic Director in his 21st year as AD.
The Pleasant Hill Lady Wolves took a perfect game into the seventh inning before falling to the Illini Bluffs Lady Tigers 1-0. Pleasant Hill finished their impressive 2024 season with a record of 26-6.
The West Central Cougars are your 2024 IHSA Class 1A State Champions! The Cougars sealed the deal with a 62-43 victory over the Meridian Bobcats, finishing the year with a record of 36-3. KJFM-WBBA Sports was ecstatic to be along for the ride. Stason Martin, Jim Ross, and Gordon Sanders provided play-by-play action from the State Title game. It was a memorable experience for an outstanding group of athletes and the WC Community. Congratulations, Cougars!
