LOUISIANA, Mo. — Two days after an administrative hearing led to the impeachment and removal from office of Louisiana Ward I Council Member Heather Wernowsky, a special meeting has been called tonight by Louisiana Mayor Tim Carter. While the first agenda item is Carter’s appointment to fill Wernowky’s seat in Ward I, an emergency temporary restraining order was filed in Pike County Circuit Court earlier today by Wernowsky’s attorney, Nick Fregeau. The document outlines the current situation, cites areas of law that Wernowsky plans to appeal and requests the city not be able to appoint a replacement until there is adequate time for judicial review. Seven members remain active council members, so regular city business may continue uninterrupted while the seat remains vacant. Other agenda items for the special council meeting tonight include discussion of additional street projects and consideration of the state auditor’s invoice. The meeting is scheduled for 6 pm in the second floor council chambers at the Louisiana City Hall.
