
PIKE COUNTY, Ill. — The following press release was issued by Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood:
On 11-23-25, at 9:39 PM, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a possible plane crash that occurred in a field north of I-72 west of Exit 35.
Upon the arrival of a Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy, a person later identified as a passenger from the airplane was located along the interstate. Following the arrival of a Pike County Ambulance, the deputy began searching for the plane, locating it a short time later. The plane was carrying a total of three people. Two passengers were transported to area hospitals, and one was pronounced dead at the scene.
The FAA along with the Illinois State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
Assisting at the scene was the Griggsville Fire Department, Pittsfield Fire Department, Baylis Fire Department, North Pike Fire Department, The Pike County Ambulance Service, The Illinois State Police, Adams County EMA, Brown County EMA, The FAA and NTSB.
