
Cross Country
It was a great weekend for numerous local runners as they competed in the MSHSAA State Cross-Country meets on Friday and Saturday at Gans Creek in Columbia.
In Class 1 – Clopton sophomore Jason Hoffman capped a great season in record-breaking fashion. He earned 4th place overall, improving his record time to 16-minutes 46-seconds, once again setting the Clopton school record…and, taking home Class 1 All-State honors. The Clopton Lady Hawks took a team of 7 to state on Saturday. Freshman Beau Beauchamp clenched 21st to secure a trip to the podium for All-State recognition.
In Class 2 – Elsberry had two senior runners at state. Jedidiah Heras snagged an 11th place finish and All-State designation. Ellie Hartley came in 37th on Saturday.
In Class 3 – The Bowling Green boy’s team made their 20th state appearance over the last 26 years on Friday with 7 runners. Senior Brendan Finnegan led the way for the Bobcats at 46th place, and senior Logan Pontius was 53rd. Two Lady Bobcats also advanced to the state meet. Sophomore McKinley Vanhooser finished in 50th and Harley Haywood was 61st.
