BOWLING GREEN, Mo — As the winter recedes, Spring presents the perfect opportunity for comprehensive exterior home evaluations. Now is the time to inspect the outside of your home. Think of the outside as a shell protecting the inside from harm and damage. This is timely because the Love thy Neighbor program is looking for Bowling Green homeowners that can’t afford or are not able to repair or replace needed improvements to the exterior of their house. Last year, Love Thy Neighbor project led by but not limited to Second Baptist Church, replaced roofs, decks, porches, ramps as well as cleaned yards, and painted the exterior of a 2-story house. We are looking again for Bowling Green homeowners that need assistance at no cost to repair or replace. Again, the program is designed for those that own their own home but are not physically or monetarily able to make repairs or replacements themselves. This Love Thy Neighbor program is open to other churches, painters, carpenters, cooks, delivery people for supplies, water, food/snacks, etc. It is open to all who would like to bless others that simply need a little help in maintaining their homes. Youth groups, school organizations, athletic teams are welcome to clean gutters, mow lawns, clean up yards, cut down bushes, paint, and plant flowers. Request for house repairs and/or volunteer forms are available at Second Baptist Church of Bowling Green and on line.

As Bowling Green’s elected officials, city business leaders, stakeholders and residents, we must ask ourselves, “Is Bowling Green stronger and better than it was in 2015, in 2005, in 1995, and even better than 1985? If we can say, “YES,” then we are headed in the right direction. But if you honestly look back and must admit to “NO,” then we have a lot of work to do! We cannot coast in any comfort zone because as soon as we do, we will lose ground!
