LOUISIANA, Mo — The Louisiana Lions Club will mark the 65th year of its Pancake Day on Saturday, March 22.
It will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, 522 South Carolina Street. Dine-in and carry-out will be available. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages four to 10. Kids three and under eat free.
The menu features pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, fruit, coffee, juice and milk.
The Louisiana Lions became a chartered club on Sept. 2, 1959, and the first Pancake Day was in spring 1960. Members and volunteers have come and gone, but the club has a strong tradition of two “expert” pancake flippers – Charlie Shelton and Herb Everett.
Lions Clubs International began in 1917, and in 1922 the Ames, Iowa, Lions Club held its first “Flapjack Supper.” One of the longest running and most successful Pancake Days is the Cape Girardeau Lions Club’s, which began in 1939.
Lions Club International is known for vision and hearing programs, but offers much more. Lions is renowned as the world’s largest service club organization, primarily focusing on fighting blindness and providing vision care, while also contributing to various community and humanitarian efforts.
There is an eight-point focus within the following areas: Vision, Childhood Cancer, Diabetes, Disaster Relief, Environment, Humanitarian, Hunger and Youth.
