BOWLING GREEN, MO — The list of local projects grows for “Love Thy Neighbor,” the multi-denominational home repair outreach ministry provided by churches in the Bowling Green area with support from community volunteers and donations. Bowling Green Mayor Jim Arico and Mark West, of Second Baptist Church, came by KJFM-WBBA studio for the Eagle Morning Show on Tuesday to discuss some important dates coming up for the organization.
Folks needing a helping hand with an exterior home project may qualify for assistance from the program. West pointed out there are still some time slots available. Individuals looking for help with a home project must be a homeowner to qualify for the Love Thy Neighbor (LTN) program. Only exterior projects may be considered. West explained that ideal projects include repairs to roofs, siding, decks, painting or additions such as a wheelchair ramp, etc.
“People don’t need to suffer, we all have neighbors who are willing to help,” West remarked.
LTN will perform a slate of projects the week of June 23-27. West pointed out there is still a need for volunteers to assist that week. He pointed out there is a particular need for anyone available early in the week when a bulk of work will be done. Those interested in helping will need to complete an application and medical release form. Those signed and notarized forms need to be returned to Second Baptist Church, along with $25 by Sunday, May 19. Each participating volunteer will receive a t-shirt to wok in each day that will be washed and returned.
Those volunteering during the work week may enjoy a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided on job sites. Dinners will be provided to volunteers at the church. Participants should plan to check in on Sunday, June 23 for training, crew assignments, job preparation, dinner and worship. Donations are also greatly appreciated to help fulfill needs within the community.
Mayor Arico underscored how great the program is to have in Bowling Green to help individuals and the community as a whole.
Anyone interested in applying for a home project or those looking to donate or volunteer should call 573-324-3113 or find more information on their Facebook page.
