LOUISIANA, Mo. — The legend of Mo Mo the Missouri Monster is being showcased by KETC Channel 9.
The segment is scheduled to air at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, on the PBS station as part of the “Living St. Louis” program. Mo Mo was the Bigfoot-like creature that reportedly was spotted in Louisiana in July 1972.
KETC producer Veronica Mohesky and videographer Aaron Landgraf spent three hours in Louisiana on Aug. 18. They interviewed Brent Engel, Linda Beer and Max Patrick of the museum. They also toured Star Hill, where the original sighting took place.
In addition, Mohesky talked with musician Bill Whyte, a Missouri native who was working at a Bowling Green radio station when he recorded a song about Mo Mo.
Whyte is a singer, songwriter, producer and member of the Country Radio Broadcasters Hall of Fame who now lives in Nashville. He performed in Louisiana last year for the 50th anniversary of the Mo Mo phenomenon.
The world spotlight shined on Louisiana during the summer of 1972 after three children reported seeing an elusive creature with a foul smell, nasty disposition and an apparent appetite for small animals.
While some believed the monster was real, others said it was a hoax. More sightings were reported and investigations were launched, but no physical proof was ever found.
