BOWLING GREEN, Mo. — The 98th Annual Bowling Green tournament is now underway. The first round of the girls bracket has been decided.
The games began with the number one seeded Elsberry Lady Indians taking on the eight seeded Van-Far Lady Indians. Elsberry took the lead and never looked back, as they defeated Van-Far 47-29. This gives the Lady Indians their second straight win over the other Lady Indians. Elsberry will take on the number five seeded North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds in the semi-final round of the tournament. Van-Far will play against the Clopton Lady Hawks next.
The five seeded North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds defeated the four seeded Clopton Lady Hawks in the first round of the tournament, 45-41. This win gave North Callaway revenge against Clopton, as these two teams had squared off last week, with the Lady Hawks coming away with a 70-54 win over the Lady Thunderbirds. North Callaway will face off against Elsberry in the semi-final round. Clopton will face the eight seeded Van-Far next.
The seven seeded Bowling Green Lady Cats faced off against the two seeded Winfield Lady Warriors in the last game of the night. Bowling Green put up a tough fight against Winfield, but it was not enough, as the Lady Warriors edged a win over the Lady Cats, 49-44. The victory game Winfield their second straight win over Bowling Green in the Bowling Green tournament, as they had narrowly escaped with a win last year, 38-35. The Lady Warriors will play the three seeded Silex Lady Owls in the other semi-final matchup on Wednesday, January 25th. The Lady Cats will have a chance at revenge against the six seed Louisiana Bulldogs in the second round.
The three seeded Silex Lady Owls played the six seeded Louisiana Lady Bulldogs. Silex came away with the victory, 64-57, in a high scoring contest. The Lady Owls got payback for the game these two teams had played the week prior to the tournament, which had the Lady Bulldogs coming away with the win, 51-39 over the Lady Owls. Silex will be up against the Winfield Lady Warriors in the final semi-final matchup of the tournament.
