Silex, Mo. — Senior Gwen Gilbert from Silex High School has been selected as this year’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete. This is the 56th year for the Scholar Athlete program, which honors one student from every school, requiring that they participate in athletics and excel in the classroom. Gilbert is ranked No. 1 in the Class of 2022 and has played softball, basketball and track for the Silex Lady Owls.

Gwen will continue her academic career at Northwest Missouri State University majoring in mathematics with an emphasis in data science. On the softball field, she earned First Team All-Conference and First Team All-District twice, First Team All-Region once & Second Team All-State once. She earned EMO All-Conference Jumper and 2nd team All-Conference for the Long Jump in Track & Field. She is involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, S.A.F.E./SADD, FFA, FBLA & FCA. Gwen is the daughter of Mike & Julie Henry and Jeremy & Kristin Gilbert.
