KJFM NEWS – Garden Talk is produced monthly at the Adair County University of Missouri Extension Center in Kirksville, Mo.
A Master Gardener Course will be offered starting March 22 through June 7. Classes will be held by Zoom and in-person. There will be 12 presentations on Tuesdays from 9:30-noon. Participants can choose to watch the presentation by Zoom from their home, their local county Extension Center, or in-person at the Adair County Extension Center. To supplement what is learned in the presentations, there will be 6 outdoor, in-person lab classes on Thursdays from 9-11 am, except for June 9 which will be from 2-4 pm. The rain date is the next day, Friday.
The cost of the Missouri Master Gardener Course is $200, no matter where you take it in the state. The deadline to register is March 18 at noon. Registration is online at https://extension.missouri.edu/events/master-gardener-course-kirksville-area.
The mission of the Missouri Master Gardener Extension Program is “helping others learn to grow.” The Master Gardener program provides in-depth horticultural training to individuals throughout Missouri who then volunteer their time applying what they have learned to help others in their communities to learn about gardening and environmental education.
The Master Gardener program promotes and raises public awareness of the University of Missouri Extension as a source of unbiased, research-based gardening information. Through activities such as MU Extension workshops, speaker’s bureaus, garden show booths, and demonstration projects, Master Gardeners provide gardening information to thousands of Missourians each year. They assist with MU Extension horticulture programming around the state.
To become trained as a Master Gardener, an individual must attend a 36-hour classroom Core Course training. The Master Gardener trainee is then required to give 30 hours of volunteer service back to the community in approved MU Extension activities, and have 6 continuing education hours to become a certified, active Master Gardener.
