
LOUISIANA, Mo.– The Silex Lady Owls went undefeated on Saturday at the Bulldog Invitational tournament. Silex battled Elsberry in the championship game and walked away with a 7-2 win, good for a first-place finish.
The day started early for the Lady Owls as they faced Knox County at 9:00 a.m. in the opening round of the tournament. Silex jumped out to an early lead over Knox County and held on to the lead for the remainder of the game. The Lady Owls moved on to the semi-final championship with a 9-2 win behind sophomore Karlie Ellis.
Taylor Howard got the start for Silex in the semi-final game against Van-Far. The Lady Owls jumped on Van-Far’s Mara Jensen and racked up a huge lead over the Lady Indians. Silex made quick work and defeated Van-Far 15-0 in three innings. This win sent Silex to the championship and Van-Far to the third-place game.
Silex met up with Elsberry in the final round of the Bulldog Invitational. Both teams were hungry for a win and brought their A-game. The first two innings of the championship showdown were scoreless behind the exceptional defense and pitching on both sides.
Silex broke away in the third inning as the Lady Owls tacked on four runs. The ladies in green and blacked added one run in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth.
In the sixth inning, Elsberry strung together hits and loaded the bases. The Lady Indians pushed across two runs with two outs in the top of the sixth inning. Howard killed Elsberry’s momentum with a strikeout that stopped the bleeding.
In the top of the seventh inning, Silex led Elsberry 7-2 and needed three outs to win the game. Elsberry didn’t make this an easy task for the Lady Owls as they once again loaded the bases. With two outs, Howard recorded her third strikeout of the inning for the Silex win.
