
CENTER, Mo.– The Bowling Green Bobcats defeated the Mark Twain Tigers in a crucial EMO Conference match Friday night. Going into Friday night’s game, both teams were undefeated and hungry for a win. Bowling Green came out on top 28-14, moving the Bobcats to 4-0 and the Tigers to 4-1.
With 6:56 left in the first quarter, Bowling Green’s Marcus Starks was the first to enter the endzone, putting the Bobcats up 6-0 after a failed two-point conversion attempt.
Mark Twain struck back with five minutes left in the second quarter to tie it up. The Tigers also attempted a two-point conversion and were unsuccessful.
Bowling Green moved the chains and put the ball in the endzone one more time before half-time. The Bobcats picked up the two-point conversion putting them ahead 14-6 heading back to the locker room.
With less than three minutes in the third quarter, it was Starks again making a run for the endzone, giving the red and black some insurance. After yet another failed attempt at a two-point conversion due to exceptional defense from the Tigers, Bowling Green extended their lead 20-6.
Dylan Dalton, Bowling Green’s quarterback, ran the ball to the endzone in the fourth quarter and the team was successful in their two-point conversion attempt. The Bobcats seemed to be breaking away from their undefeated foe.
Mark Twain made this game interesting as they worked hard defensively and it paid off. The Tigers gained possession of the ball and turned it into a scoring opportunity. The blue and white pushed across a touchdown and two-point conversion, bringing them within 14 points of tieing up the match.
Bowling Green locked in defensively, holding off the Tiger’s offense in the remaining minutes of the game.
Bowling Green will be back in action at home next Friday for another EMO Conference matchup against North Callaway. Administrators at Bowling Green have announced a repeat homecoming coronation ceremony that will be held for the general public at halftime of the North Callaway football game. This announcement came last week after Bowling Green did not have a football game, as Wright City postponed the game due to COVID-19.
