
TROY, Mo.– The Bowling Green Lady ‘Cats took the field early on Saturday morning in hopes of a fourth-place finish in the 15th annual Troy Leadoff Classic. Bowling Green was defeated by Palmyra 5-0 and then rallied for a 9-4 win over St. Dominic later in the day.
Bowling Green started off the day at 11:00 AM and battled the Palmyra Panthers in the fourth place semi-final game. Tanner Turner toed the rubber for the red and black, hurling five innings. Turner allowed four earned runs on ten hits and recorded seven strikeouts in the matchup. She also led her team in hits, going two for three at the plate.
The Lady ‘Cats had little time to think about their loss before stepping back on the field for their final game of the tournament. Bowling Green’s offense came alive against the St. Dominic Crusaders as the team scored early and often. The red and black combined for eleven hits. Turner, Kaelynn Wommack, Avery Gamm, and Delaney Feldmann each collected two hits in the matchup. Freshmen Sydney Charlton got the start for Bowling Green and picked up her first career varsity win. Charlton allowed four runs on six hits and struck out seven.
