LOUISIANA, Mo. — The Louisiana Lady Bulldogs fell to South Shelby on Monday night 9-8 in the seven-inning nail biter. The Bulldogs were on the brink of their first win of the season in the back and forth matchup against the Lady Birds, coming up short in the seventh inning.

Ty Campbell was on the mound for Louisiana, giving up nine runs, with only five of the runs being earned. Defensive physical and mental errors plagued the Lady Bulldog’s, making it difficult to maintain a lead.

Offensively Louisiana was exceptional, taking advantage of extra bases and executing with runners in scoring position. Ali Jenkins drove in four runners in the loss, hitting a two run homerun in the first inning, and then hitting an inside the park two run homerun in the third inning. The Lady Bulldogs out hit South Shelby as they posted 12 hits on the night, despite their loss.

This non-conference match up was very back and forth, as the two teams competed to establish a lead. In the sixth inning Louisiana was down by three runs, and tied up the game going into the seventh inning of play. Allowing one run in the top of the seventh, the Lady Bulldogs had momentum going into their final at bat of the evening. Ty Campbell lead off the inning with a single, and was followed by Vanessa Lamberson who reached first base on error. With two runners on base, Emma Inglis bunted into a pop fly double play, as Lamberson couldn’t get back in time. The double play killed the teams momentum and South Shelby secured the win.
