KJFM and the Twin Pike Family YMCA have formed a partnership to collect food for those in need in the Twin Pike Counties. The food collected now through the end of the year will be distributed to local food pantries.
According to Scott Baker, the state director with the Missouri Food Bank Association, the holiday season is the most crucial time for food banks, especially with the high rates of poverty and unemployment. He added a third of financial contributions to food banks are made during the months of November and December and it’s also a giving time of year when it comes to food donations.
“However the challenge is helping people understand that hunger is a serious problem throughout the year,” noted Baker.
