Major
flooding still expected along the Mississippi River and some communities are
already feeling the impact. In Louisiana, Highway 79 is closed from Georgia
street to Delware street. City Administrator Bob Jenne expects Highway 79 near
Noix creek to be cut off south of Louisiana by tomorrow morning. The Sny Island Levee District is also
monitoring the river very closely. Levee Superintendent Mike Reed says that
they expect the Champ Clark Bridge to be closed sometime around midday on
Saturday. Once the closure takes affect
it could be up to a week before the bridge would be opened for traffic. As of this morning, the predicted crest for
Louisiana is expected on Monday at 25.6 feet.
In Clarksville, sandbagging efforts are ongoing at this hour
as the city is trying to finish putting up the rock wall to protect the
downtown area. Mayor Jo Anne Smiley was on the Wake-Up call this morning to talk about the rock wall and to talk about
the need for volunteers.
As of this morning
the predicted crest for Clarksville is expected on Monday of 35.7. This is only two feet away from the highest ever crest from 1993 of 37.7 feet.
