The
Twin Pike Family YMCA isn’t quite ready to say it’s met a huge
fund-raising goal, but all signs point to a successful campaign.
A
formal announcement on whether the facility will get a half-million
dollar grant for a new aquatics center and walking track is planned for
next Monday at 9 a.m.
The date will mark just under a year since the Mabee Foundation of Tulsa
Oklahoma issued the fund-raising challenge. Wednesday was the deadline
for gifts and pledges.
YMCA Director Marsha Garrison was keeping tight-lipped, but called the response to the campaign “overwhelming” and “amazing.”
The three-point-eight million dollar campaign for the aquatics center
began in November 2009 with an anonymous gift of one-point-four-million
dollars.
The YMCA plans to have all the money in hand before construction begins.
The facility serves both Pike County Missouri and Pike County Illinois.
