The Twin Pike Family YMCA announced this morning they raised
the $1.25 million to receive the Mabee Foundation Grant of $500,000 and will
begin to build an aquatics center and walking track. However the surprises didn’t
stop there as YMCA Executive Director Marsha Garrison asked everyone to meet on
the front lawn immediately following the press conference to begin breaking
ground.
The YMCA’s fundraising committee had one year to meet the
$1.25 million goal set by the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation. The committee
sought pledges and donations over the past 12 months from individuals and
businesses in the twin Pike Counties and once the goal was reached the Mabee
Foundation provided the last one half million dollars to secure all funds were
in place before the YMCA began building their addition.
There is no hard deadline in place as to when the addition will
be completed. Keep up-to-date on the progress on the radio at 102.1 and online
