The Louisiana Chamber of Commerce and Community Betterment Committee are encouraging holiday decorating in and around the community by sponsoring a fun competition for businesses and residences. In coordination with the Annual Winter Wonderland Parade, being sponsored this year by the Chamber of Commerce the groups hope that everyone will join in the fun and thrill of lights and themed holiday décor for their storefronts, yards and homes. Judging will be held between November 29th and December 20th. Winners will be announced the week of December 23rd. Awards will be given in two categories for businesses and residences and awards will include local shopping coupons, prizes and a trophy (of sorts!)
“We hope that people will go ahead and decorate NOW so that on that Friday after Thanksgiving November 29nd all of the lights will come on in anticipation of the Winter Wonderland Parade downtown” a coordinator of the event commented. Parade participants this year are being asked to light up their floats. Street lights downtown will be dimmed during the parade for optimal impact.
In addition to the Winter Wonderland Parade, Friday and Saturday activities include a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The couple will meet and greet children after arriving during the parade in the park at 4th and Georgia St. Adults will enjoy the opportunity to earn some prizes by participating in a Christmas Open House and Giveaway. Entry cards will be made available at the Chamber office and participating businesses. A simple visit to each retailer or business shown in the card will get you one step closer to your entry for $500 in prizes! The Louisiana Economic Development committee has joined in on the event to promote Small Business Saturday; an effort to support local retailers for holiday shopping. Watch for more details in the coming weeks.
Anyone with questions about any of the events is encouraged to call the Chamber or stop in for details. The phone number is 573-754-5921. The office is located at the Louisiana Area Historical Museum 304 Georgia Street.
