Louisiana will be celebrating Flag Day in style.
The Elks Lodge is hosting a public ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at 120 North Fifth in the downtown area. Refreshments will be offered following the service.
Several people and groups sought to have Old Glory commemorated, but the Elks issued a resolution in 1907 declaring June 14th as Flag Day.
President Woodrow Wilson made it official in 1916 and in 1937 Pennsylvania became the first – and only – state to declare June 14th a holiday.
National Flag Day was established by Congress in 1949.
