Earlier today a judge dismissed the felony charge of official misconduct against Pike County, Illinois, Sheriff Paul Petty.
Judge Chet Vahle, of Adams County, officially ruled after the special prosecutor in the case, filed a motion to dismiss the charge.
Petty was accused of mishandling the investigation into the apparent heroin-related death of a Milton woman in 2012. He serves as county coroner, and allegedly allowed the victim’s body to be embalmed before toxicology tests were done.
Two other people face separate charges in the death.
