Mississippi River flooding continued to get worse Monday as more rain was expected overnight.

The crest prediction was raised to 35 feet at Clarksville. That’s 10 feet above flood stage. If the forecast holds, it would be the fifth-worst flood in the town’s history.

Clarksville residents and businesses have put up sandbags, concrete walls and plastic barriers to keep the water out. Highway 79 remained closed north and south of the community.

Clarksville United Methodist Church opened its kitchen to feed all of the flood-fighters. Donations were being accepted from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In Louisiana, the Champ Clark Bridge remained closed and traffic continued to be detoured along a water-logged part of Highway 79 on the south side of the city.

The Missouri Department of Transportation also reported high water had closed parts of Routes N and P in Pike County.
