Growing costs and a shortage of drivers are causing the Bowling Green school district to look at outsourcing bus services.
As a first step, the school board on Monday (April 20) will review proposed bids from two private firms. The cost estimates would be for service on the current 18 bus routes.
If the district pursues the proposal, there would be a full-time transportation director. Current drivers also would be given a chance to work for the contractor.
The district has an aging fleet and 375 square miles to cover. Some routes must periodically be merged due to a lack of drivers.
A final decision could be made in May. The district already contracts with a private firm for food services.
