Even with multiple days of rain, May was slightly drier than normal in Pike County Missouri.
Preliminary figures show an average of four inches of rain fell during the month, down a quarter-inch when compared with historical records. Some parts of the county got heavier amounts.
May is traditionally Pike County’s wettest month and it certainly had more precipitation than April, when an average of only 1.7 inches fell. The normal for April is 3.8 inches.
The Mississippi River remained three feet below flood stage Monday in Louisiana and Clarksville. Flood warnings were set to expire along the Missouri River at St. Charles and the Mississippi below St. Louis.
Cooler temperatures in recent days came nowhere near Pike County’s record low for May of 26 degrees, set on May 7th of 1989.
