Leaks have been stopped in one part of the Pike County Courthouse basement, but recent rains have led to more flooding.

Commissioners now plan to fix the east wall and are seeking bids to upgrade sewer lines in advance of other repairs.

The county recently spent 53 thousand dollars to shore up the north wall, replace a water-prone part of a parking lot and remove an old coal chute.

The work is part of an ongoing process that eventually will include the south and west sides of the basement.

County Clerk Melissa Kempke says records show flooding has been a problem on the lowest level of the Bowling Green courthouse since at least 1989. The county no longer uses the basement for storage.
