The key to fixing one of Louisiana’s busiest streets will be finding new revenue.
That’s one of the messages that came out of a public meeting on how to pay for repaving Georgia Street. The city does not have the estimated 700 thousand to two million dollars for the work.
Mayor Bart Niedner says a comprehensive blueprint is needed because the biggest bang for the buck would include simultaneous upgrades of water and sewer lines, sidewalks, lighting and other infrastructure.
A combination of financing may eventually be required. Niedner said the city has options, but must not kick the can down the road because the challenge isn’t going away.
While there is no specific timeline, Niedner hopes the City Council will discuss the issue and reach a decision by early January.
