Now that Bowling Green aldermen have cleared the way for alcohol to be served in city parks, regulations must be worked out.
City Attorney Jim Burlison will draft a new ordinance outlining the guidelines for selling and serving beer and liquor. It will likely mirror a policy used at the Bowling Green Community Center – the only city-owned place where alcohol is allowed.
Supporters say Bowling Green is losing out on many community events because of the current ban on alcohol in parks. Opponents said liquor will only contribute to crime and safety problems.
The city hopes to have the new ordinance in place before spring activities.
