A Bowling Green boy who went on to a storied sports career is being honored.
Moberly Area Community College is celebrating its national championships from the 1950s and 1960s during the weekend of January 15th and 16th.
One of those recognized will be Bowling Green native Cotton Fitzsimmons, who coached Moberly to two national titles in 11 seasons before going on to Kansas State and then a successful career in the National Basketball Association.
Fitzsimmons coached professionally in Phoenix, Atlanta, Buffalo and San Antonio. He died of cancer on July 24 of 2004.
For some reason that isn’t clear, Fitzsimmons has yet to be enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
