Pike County Illinois is eligible for additional flood-fighting assistance after being added to the state disaster declaration.
Governor Bruce Rauner added Pike and Cass counties to the list of 23 places hit hard by high water. Calhoun County already was part of the list.
The declaration makes items such as sandbags, pumps and trucks available. Prison inmate crews can also be used.
The Illinois River at Valley City crested at more than 11 feet above flood stage — just a foot-and-a-half shy of the record set in 1943. The river remained eight feet above flood stage Wednesday at Hardin, but the crest fell about six feet short of the 1993 record.
The Mississippi River had dropped below flood stage at Louisiana, Clarksville and Winfield on Wednesday.
