A light turnout in Tuesday’s Pike County municipal elections could make a difference for several ballot issues.
Voters in Louisiana will consider two sales tax increases that would generate money for street improvements and storm water control projects. The long-discussed upgrade of Georgia Street is at the top of the list.
Frankford voters will decide whether to discontinue a sales tax on some vehicles. All three ballot measures require a simple majority for passage.
There are also contested candidate races for the Pike County Home Health and Hospice District, first and third ward Bowling Green alderman, first ward Louisiana City Council, Clarksville South Ward, Eolia Village Trustee and the Bowling Green school board.
The county clerk’s office expects turnout of around 20 percent. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
