The Missouri General Assembly is heading into the final hours of this spring’s legislative session.
Among the items awaiting approval is a measure by Representative Jim Hansen that would allow more Missouri communities to have another development incentive.
The Frankford Republican wants to give all Missouri cities the right to set up tax-support community improvement districts. Right now, only Kansas City may do so.
Community improvement districts are not-for-profits or separate political subdivisions organized to finance wide-ranging public works projects.
If approved by voters in the proposed district, a tax could be levied to fund development efforts. The State Senate has held a public hearing on the proposal, but has yet to take a formal vote. The legislative session ends at 6 p.m. Friday (May 13).
