The Louisiana Community Betterment Farmers Market has set it’s opening date. The market will open for business on Wednesday, May 3rd for the 2017 season. The market is held in Sunset Park on Georgia St. and will operate every Wednesday from May 3rd to Oct. 11th.
“We decided to cut the market operating season by 2 weeks this year, due to so many of the vendors not having produce that late into the fall. If the product is there, we do have some vendors that would be willing to operate an extra week or so,” stated Diana Huckstep, Chairperson for LCB and the Market Master.
Operating hours will be 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. each week. We have established an opening time of 3:00 p.m. A bell will ring to indicate the opening of the market this year. No sales will take place before 3:00 p.m. to give our vendors adequate time to get their area set up and ready for the sale.
Unless there is severe weather, a little rain will not close the market. “We were out there several times last year in the rain, but still had a good turn out and the rain ended up stopping after an hour or so,” stated Huckstep.
The market features locally grown produce, fruit, canned jellies and jam, honey, plants, baked goods and locally handmade craft items.
We are pleased to announce that Buffalo Township United Fund will be hosting a BBQ once a month at the market this year. They will begin on Wednesday, May 10th. If there are other organizations that would like to sponsor a food booth at the market, please be sure to contact Diana Huckstep.
We are currently taking space applications for the market. If you would like to participate by selling your home grown or home produced items, including crafts, please contact Diana Huckstep by emailing her at: lmofarmersmkt@yahoo.com or if you would like further information, you may call her at: 314-640-4420.
