People got a chance to learn more about Champ Clark Bridge history over the weekend.
The Missouri Department of Transportation and Massman Construction hosted a program highlighting the structure's past and the construction status for the new bridge.
MoDOT historians Karen Daniels and Ashley Porter outlined the Champ Clark's construction and dedication. Local historian Brent Engel discussed earlier efforts at river crossings.
The first cars rolled across the Champ Clark on May 12, 1928. The formal dedication was held June 9 of that year. An estimated 30,000 people attended.
Completion of the new bridge is scheduled for fall 2019.
