Missouri Governor Mike Parson got a look at flood-ravaged Clarksville Monday afternoon.
The governor met with Clarksville Mayor Jo Anne Smiley and other area leaders. Clarksville has appealed to state lawmakers for two million dollars that would help build a temporary flood wall. The funding is still being considered.
The Mississippi River crested at Clarksville on Sunday at just over 37 feet. That’s only a few inches below the record set in 1993. Seven of the top 10 floods in Clarksville history have happened in the last 18 years, and three of those have been in 2019.
Clarksville Methodist Church continues to feed flood-fighters and displaced residents. A big shipment of supplies – including canned goods, soft drinks, potatoes and even corn on the cob – arrived Monday from the St. Louis Food Bank.
People who want to know more about helping in Clarksville should call City Hall at 573-242-3336.
