The Louisiana Bulldogs football team will not be taking the field this Friday night. According to Louisiana athletic director Ryan Griffin the decision to cancel the match-up against Priory, which was set to feature senior recognition night, was due to low numbers, injuries and ineligible players which caused concern for player safety.
“The decision was not made lightly, but the safety of our students must be our top priority,” stated Griffin. “We will honor our senior football players, cheerleaders, band members and color guard members and their parents at a later date."
Per Griffin, "After meeting with our fall seniors this morning, they have chosen to reschedule their fall senior night to Dec. 5, which is the 1st home basketball game of the season. We will honor the fall seniors and their parents between the varsity girls and varsity boys games. We had all of the seniors being recognized involved in this discussion and they felt like it was the best option. They felt like this will allow all for families to be there and watch them be recognized. "
When asked about the rest of the season being cancelled, Griffin said, “Our focus is going to be to get enough players healthy to play Scotland County next week.”
He added that they can’t say with 100% certainty the game will take place, they have every intention to try and play at Scotland County next Friday night.
