PIKE COUNTY, Mo. – The Pike County Sheriff’s Department is seeking information into three burglaries that took place in the early morning hours of Jan. 17.
Sheriff Stephen Korte said the thefts are suspected to have been committed by more than one individual. Physical evidence was left behind at one of the scenes which will be submitted for DNA processing.
The burglaries started in rural Eolia where a 14-foot flat single axle trailer was stolen in addition to white buckets of copper.
It is believed the trailer was used to steal a Yamaha Rhino taken from a rural road near the Clopton School District. The UTV is camouflage in color. Also taken from that location was a black Craftsman drill press and a buddy heater that screws into a propane bottle.
The last burglary took place on Pike County Road 252. A failed attempt was made to steal a trailer. Items were stolen from the location, though, including an air tank and an air compressor.
A glove and a bandana were recovered from one of the crime scenes. Citizens are asked to look at the photo included with this article. If anyone recognizes the articles, they are urged to contact Detective Joey Minor or Detective David Carroll with the Sheriff’s Department.
Korte pointed out that the state’s new bail rule has created a situation that can perpetuate criminal activity.
“It makes it extremely easy for thieves to be out stealing from our homes and properties,” he explained. “Please be vigilant and if you believe you have seen something strange or out of place, get a [license] plate number or a picture, and report it. An game cameras do help in protecting property.”
Korte added this particular group of thieves are lazy and apparently incapable of common employment in addition to not being good at burglary and will be caught in a matter of time.
Anyone with information into this or other criminal activity is encouraged to contact law enforcement. Call can be made anonymously.
