PIKE COUNTY, Mo. – Area leaders are working on ways to hold meetings should restrictions continue in the future.

The entire country has been instructed to not be in gatherings of more than 10 people and citizens are instructed to practice social distancing. This presents a challenge for municipal and school boards.

Local superintendents and municipal leaders told KJFM today that they are working on ways to continue business while adhering to guidelines set forth to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

Bowling Green R-I Superintendent Dr. Matthew Frederickson said district administration was working on solutions today (Friday, March 20).

“We are working to get set up for Zoom [Video Communications] and publishing the code to all interested for this coming meeting, he remarked.

This would allow for the school board and any visitors who have a computer and internet access to participate in the meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24 at this time.

With the exception of the Louisiana City Council, other municipal boards can technically meet without exceeding 10 individuals. If the regulationss change, town leaders will have to reevaluate.

Louisiana Mayor Marvin Brown noted the city council is not slated to meet again until April 27.

“We’re checking on what it would take to do them remotely, and obviously legally. Interested citizens have to be able to observe in some fashion. Assuming we can find an acceptable way to do so, that would be my recommendation for the next several months at least,” he explained.

The Bowling Green Board of Aldermen is scheduled to meet again on Monday, April 6.

Citizens are instructed to call their municipalities with any questions. City leaders encourage residents to make payments electronically, mail or use a dropbox.
