The perfect setting for the “Hallmark” version of the Louisiana Community Christmas Parade. This year’s parade was sponsored by the Louisiana Community Betterment Assoc. in cooperation with Louisiana Lions Club.
“Although it was pretty chilly, there was no wind, so it was not uncomfortable and people absolutely loved the snow as a backdrop for the parade and the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree,” said Diana Huckstep, LCBA Chairperson. “It was wonderful to have the help of extra hands from members of the Lions Club also,” stated Huckstep. The parade started at Sunset Park and proceeded down Georgia St. to 3rd St. where it dispersed.
After the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree, children of all ages were able to visit with Santa at the Louisiana Historical Museum. Many smiles and eyes filled with wonder were all part of the wonderful evening. “I just loved the way the children all looked at Santa,” said Linda Beer, board member of the museum. She was sitting close to Santa so that she could take pictures of the faces of the children as they visited with Santa.
Parade winners of the evening are: 1st. Place, Charles Lesley, Louisiana Auto Sales – 2nd. Place, Terry Stark, Stark Bros. Nurseries – Tim Turco, with his MelloYellow Boat.
LCBA and the Lions Club would like to thank the Louisiana Police Dept., the Fire Departments and Emergency workers who took part in the parade. We would also like to recognize the city workers who help in so many ways each year. These guys put up the giant Christmas tree, install all the lightpole Snowflake decorations and help with distributing the barricades used the night of the parade. Their help is greatly appreciated.
