Pike County Memorial Hospital awarded Louisiana Community Betterment Farmers Market a $500 Senior Nutrition Double Dollars Grant. The funds will be used for seniors in the community to help purchase edible items and hygiene products, fresh from the Farmers Market.
The grant money will be matched dollar for dollar on purchases made at the Farmers Market by any senior, 62 years or older, but do not qualify for food stamps. The seniors will need to show proof of age before they are issued Double Dollars. Seniors will be issued Double Dollar bucks for every dollar they spend up to a maximum of $10 per week.
“We are so excited to partner with PCMH and are very grateful for this grant. This grant enables our Farmers Market to enhance the lives of the seniors in our community,” stated Diana Huckstep, LCBA Chairperson and Market Manager.
“The Double Dollars are going to be a tremendous help to those seniors who do not qualify for SNAP/EBT, but are struggling to purchase food due to the increased costs. When folks purchase at the Farmers Market, they are purchasing fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and hygiene products that are made locally,” stated Huckstep.
The Double Dollars program will begin Wednesday, July 24, 2024 and run until the $500 in grant funds are gone. For more information on the Double Dollar program, please contact Diana Huckstep at 314-640-4420 or by email at Lmocombtrmt@yahoo.com.
