HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Transportation is hosting a public information meeting on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Hannibal High School cafeteria, located at 4500 McMasters Ave. in Hannibal, to share information about the U.S. 61 EIS Re-Evaluation Study. The purpose of the meeting is to provide an overview for the two phases of the study, share initial findings and allow the community to provide input. There is currently no funding for construction.
This will be an open house style meeting with no formal presentation. Stop by anytime to speak with the project team and provide input. For those unable to attend the in-person event, an online component with the same information and exhibits from the in-person meeting will be available online on the project webpage. Participants can view on any device at their convenience and provide comments via an electronic comment form. The public comment period will be available from February 21 to March 8, 2024.
The existing U.S. Route 61 Expressway through Hannibal, Missouri serves as a key link along the Avenue of the Saints corridor between St. Louis, Missouri and Minneapolis/ St. Paul, Minnesota. The project team has conducted the U.S. Route 61 Expressway Re-Evaluation Study as well as reviewed potential improvements to the existing corridor. The purpose of any proposed improvements is to accommodate increased travel demand and improve safety on U.S. Route 61 within Hannibal.
