KJFM SPORTS — The 2023 Bulldog baseball season is in full swing. Returning this season with a district championship under their belts, the Bulldogs are hungry for another.
They have lost a couple of vital players who graduated last year, but still, have a great team of boys stepping back onto the same field once again. The season opener took place this past Monday, March 20 with the Bulldogs falling against the Silex Owls. Bulldogs took the lead in the beginning, but ended with a disappointing loss, with the final score being 8-6.
They face the Bowling Green Bobcats this Thursday. Louisiana is eagerly searching for their first win of the 2023 season.
Coach Ryan Griffin had a few words to say about the Bulldogs’ first game and what they need to improve on looking toward this next game.
“Thursday, we need to have a better plate approach, and not strike out so many times. Our pitchers need to do a better job of throwing closer to the strike zone,” said Griffin. “And not so many wild pitches, which in turn, leads to runs for the other team that are preventable. Defensively, though, I thought we played pretty well last night, (Monday night), but we still need to keep working at that.”
Some strategies that Griffin said to help shut out the Bobcats Thursday night would be to use the boys’ experience to our advantage since most of our boys have been starters in past seasons. Compared to Bowling Green who lost many of their starters to graduation. Louisiana is hoping to get a leg up with this aspect of the game. The last time Louisiana faced Bowling Green was during the 2022 season where they took a huge loss, 11-1. The Bulldogs are looking for redemption against their not-so-perfect track record with the Bobcats. The last time Louisiana came up on top was in 2011. The Bulldogs are due for a win.
The infamous rivalry between the Bowling Green Bobcats and the Louisiana Bulldogs continues. Come out to Wallace Memorial Park in Louisiana as the Bulldogs host the Bobcats. The home opener game time starts at 5pm on Thursday, March 23.
