ST. CHARLES, Mo.– The Bowling Green Bobcats boys basketball team saw their season come to an end last night. Bowling Green was defeated by the Winfield Warriors in the first round of the Class Four District Seven Tournament.
The Bobcats fell to the Warriors for the second time this season, 63-49, giving Bowling Green their fifth straight loss to Winfield, and their third consecutive loss in the postseason. Bowling Green had lost to Winfield earlier in the season, when the two teams faced off in the semi-finals of the 98th Annual Bowling Green Tournament. The Bobcats lost to the Warriors, 64-41, eventually would lead Bowling Green to a third-place finish in the Bowling Green tournament. The Warriors will face the Lutheran St. Charles Cougars in the semi-finals of the Class Four District Seven Tournament.
Overall, it was a great season for the Bobcats. Bowling Green started out 3-5 in their first eight games of the season. Then, before the Bowling Green Tournament, the Cats went 4-3 and were sitting as the seven seed in their own tournament. Bowling Green beat Clopton in the first round, lost to Winfield in the semi-finals, and then finished the tournament with a win against the Van-Far Indians to claim the third-place trophy. The Bobcats were then able to catch fire, as they won seven of their last nine games in the regular season, including a five-game winning streak heading into the playoffs. It was in the first round of the district tournament where the Bobcats fell to the Winfield Warriors, ending their winning streak, and ending their season. Congratulations to seniors Marcus Starks, Brandon Gamm, Gunner Bryant, Jackson Charlton, and Nate Krumwiede on great high school basketball careers.
