
BOWLING GREEN, Mo.– The 98th Annual Bowling Green tournament begins tonight, as the Lady Cats and Bobcats find themselves as underdogs in their own tournament.
The girls side of the bracket has the Elsberry Lady Indians as the one seed, the Winfield Lady Warriors as the two seed, the Silex Lady Owls as the three seed, and the Clopton Lady Hawks as the four seed. The bottom half has the North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds as the five seed, the Louisiana Lady Bulldogs as the six seed, the Bowling Green Lady Cats will be the seven seed, and the Van-Far Lady Indians will wrap up the teams as the eight seed.
The boys side of the bracket consists of the Elsberry Indians being the one seed, the Clopton Hawks as the two seed, the North Callaway Thunderbirds as the three seed, and the Louisiana Bulldogs wrap up the top four teams in the bracket. The bottom four teams consist of Van-Far as the five seed, Winfield as the six seeded team, Bowling Green as the seven seed, and Silex with the eight seed.
The Lady Cats will be the seventh seed in the Bowling Green Tournament. Their opponent is the number two seeded Winfield Lady Warriors. The last time these two teams faced each other was in the Bowling Green Tournament last season. Winfield came away with a narrow victory, 38-35, over Bowling Green. The win was the Lady Warriors first win over the Lady Cats in team history, Bowling Green was previously an immaculate 16-0 against Winfield. The Lady Cats head into the first round with a 7-8 record, while the Lady Warriors will head with a 10-3 record. Bowling Green averages 45 points per contest, while they give up 42 points on defense. Winfield puts up 53 points on the board per game, while they allow just 41 points to their opponents. The Lady Cats are coming off a 22-point loss in the rematch with the Montgomery County Wildcats. The Lady Warriors are coming off a blowout win over the Duchesne Lady Pioneers.
The Bobcats will also be the seventh seed in the Bowling Green Tournament. Their first-round opponent is the number two seeded Clopton Hawks. Bowling Green and Clopton met in the Montgomery County Invitational Tournament, where the Hawks came away with the win, 60-51. The loss snapped the Bobcats two game winning streak over the Hawks, making Bowling Green 10-11 against Clopton all time. The Bobcats head into the first round with a 5-7 record, while the Hawks are 12-4 on the season. Bowling Green averages 53 points per game, while they allow 57 points per game to the opposition. Clopton scores 57 points per match, while they allow around 48 points per game on the defensive side. The Bobcats are coming off a loss to the Montgomery County Wildcats, 56-43, giving Bowling Green their second straight loss to the boys in blue. The Hawks are coming off a win over the Duchesne Pioneers, 75-64, giving Clopton their first win over Duchesne since 1963.
