PIKE COUNTY, Mo. — This is the second year that the Louisiana Bulldogs take on the Bowling Green Bobcats, for the Mayor’s Cup, since 2015. The Bulldogs are looking for revenge, as they fell to the Bobcats last year. Both teams will kick off the season tonight at Bowling Green.
The Louisiana Bulldogs have a bright outlook on this year’s season. Bringing the momentum from last year, the Bulldogs hope to get a positive record this year. Head Football Coach Greg Pitzer has another year of experience under his belt, and with the addition of Duchesne’s Defensive Coach Elmendorf and experienced Coach Matt Smith, their coaching staff is an impressive lineup. This year’s team includes multiple returning seniors: running back Wyatt Harrison, lineman Syler Feldewerth and linebackers Kenny McCormick and Sheldon Silvey. Four more seniors have signed up and are looking to make an impact on the team. With a lineup composed mostly of experienced seniors and juniors, Louisiana is in a better spot than ever to end the season with a winning record.
The Bulldogs are returning this season from a tragic playoff defeat and are looking to get their first playoff win in a decade. In the nine month period between seasons, Louisiana has had plenty of time to prepare for the new season. With many of the players enrolled in a weights class or lifting on their own, they are coming back with an even stronger team than last year. The players aren’t the only ones putting work in, as Coach Pitzer is more dedicated to the team each year. Every year he coaches, the team improves and he hopes to continue the trend.
In recent years, the Bulldogs haven’t been able to defeat the Bobcats. The dedicated fans of Louisiana hope to witness an upset this year and continue the tradition of rivalry between the teams. Starting the season off with a win against the Bobcats will be a great start for the 2022 season.
